Over 1.6 billion passenger journeys were made on the UK Rail network during 2013. As the proportion of journeys paid for by season tickets is now close to 50%, it is not only essential that rail operators improve the way that the tickets are retailed and also that they capitalise upon the smart technology-led opportunity to establish meaningful and helpful contact with each of their customers. The current rail franchise tendering exercises incorporate requirements for bidders to improve their retailing capability to include web integrated Smartcard (or similar) technology which will be available for use across different modes of transport.
De Lande has already assisted in this process, project- managing implementation of ITSO Smartcard for London Midland, First Group Bus and Go-Ahead’s new TSGN Rail Franchise.
